June 2023: Heriot's Partnership Extension
EDINBURGH-based Heriots Rugby Club have extended their partnership with social care charity Capability Scotland through into 2026. The organisations, who have been working together over the past two years, have raised over £23,000 to support Capability Scotland’s work in providing care, support and education for the disabled people of Scotland.
Funds raised will go towards the development of the charity’s Edinburgh services, where they offer meaningful activities and health interventions to the people supported, including a new respite opportunity allowing short breaks to take place.
The partnership has seen some great events and activities take place, including a Glasgow-to-Edinburgh sponsored cycle, donations from the club’s ladies’ days and club events, and an evening dinner with the charity as the guests of honour.
The dinner was held at Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh, the heart of Scottish Rugby which raised £12,000 alone and included a speech from journalist Tam Cowan.
The partnership looks forward to a second sponsored cycle between St Andrews and Edinburgh in summer and making their dinner an annual event.
Brian Logan, Chief Executive of Capability Scotland said:
“Creating strong community partnerships is something we rely on to deliver the very best service to the people we support, and we’re incredibly thankful to Heriot’s Rugby Club for extending this link for another three years. Not only does this help raise important funds to improve our vital work for disabled people but it strengthens our friendships and shows how working together achieves more.”
Mel McCallum, President of Heriot’s Rugby Club said:
“In recent years we have been conscious that we must extend our reach further into the community and our partnership with Capability Scotland has enabled us to do that. We are pleased with how our association has worked, which not only has raised funds for Capability Scotland but enabled Heriot’s to engage with a new audience, a welcome opportunity that allows us to grow our brand and generate income for club activities.”
