The Kate Lock Boccia Tournament is back, and was hosted by our Junction 52 service.

Forty people from our Edinburgh services, Upper Springland, Dumfries and Galloway, Wallace Court and Corseford College all took part this year.

There was a great atmosphere in the hall and some very competitive players were hoping to win the trophy. Junction 52 kept everyone hydrated with drinks and fresh fruit platters and Graham, our chef at Wallace Court, provided a lovely buffet lunch.

The competition was played in pairs over many rounds, and Corseford College worked hard to retain the trophy but were beaten in the final by Claire and Murrin. Lauren and Lewis from Corseford College were still happy to receive silver medals, and Eva and Derek from Junction 52 took the bronze medals for third place.

Everyone had a great day and said they would like to take part in more inter-service events. We will need to hire a bigger hall next year!

Quotes from those who attended:

Claire: “ I really enjoyed the day, although we got off to a bad start. After a cup of tea and a piece of cake, we went on to be the winners, which was amazing. I had a great time, lunch was good, and there was a nice atmosphere".

Murrin: “I had a great day, it was well organised and a lot of fun. Can’t wait till the next one to defend our title”

Liz from Wallace Court: “May we say a big thank you to our hosts, Junction 52, the referees and all the staff. We had a fantastic day having the opportunity to meet up with other teams”.

Alexandra, Junction 52: “Junction 52 attendees enjoyed taking part in the tournament, they loved the busy, exciting atmosphere, meeting other people and were delighted when other services took an interest in the centre and they were happy to answer all their questions.

Edinburgh Services:  "There was a great atmosphere, staff were very welcoming and friendly. The competition was run well and planned carefully. The staff and customers had a great time, the decorations were fab, and it was a nice touch to have fruit and sandwiches to share. The customers felt included and valued, receiving a medal and certificate. Lynne (the Junction 52 Manager) was very kind and welcoming, and the décor was brilliant.

Darren: "I am proud of myself for attending the boccia tournament as a year ago my anxiety wouldn’t have let me do this, but with the encouragement from ABI Rehab in Dumfries and Galloway, I have been able to try new things. The day was fun-filled, entertaining, and the lunch was great. I really enjoyed playing boccia, and the winners were fantastic. I would take part in future, and I am hoping we can start something here in Dumfries."

Jessica: "The day went well, I enjoyed the whole day from the bus trip to taking part in boccia. The lunch provided was lovely, and lots of nice food. It was nice to meet new people and chat with them. I felt welcomed, and as I am new to the Dumfries and Galloway service, it was lovely to be able to support my peers and have fun.
